    The manufacturer has received certain user reports describing that, with the above fans, the graphical user interface ("gui") screens (both top and bottom) become blank during use on the patient. this case interferes with the clinician's ability at the clinic to view and / or change the ventilator setting or clinically set alarm parameters for the patient. however, in all cases reported so far, this ventilator continues to support breathing during these situations. if this condition does not occur, use of the puritan bennett 840 fan can be continued.

    “If our surveillance systems identify a potential performance issue, our personnel promptly evaluate the problem, including, when appropriate, conducting root cause investigations and internal testing to assess whether the product continues to meet specifications and defined performance criteria,” Medtronic told ICIJ in a statement. “In some cases, based on this evaluation, Medtronic may determine that a recall is necessary.” The company said that it communicates with healthcare providers and/or patients and provide recommendations to address such issues.
